Mecklenburg County
Residential walls supporting about 5 feet or more of fill generally need a building permit and sealed design drawings from Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement. Confirm with Mecklenburg County Code Enforcement permitting.
Lake Norman shoreline lots
Lots in Cornelius, Davidson and Mooresville near the lake can involve lake-area or buffer rules. If work is near the shoreline, check with your town and with Duke Energy's shoreline management before work begins.
Outside Mecklenburg
Indian Trail and Waxhaw (Union County), Concord (Cabarrus County), Gastonia (Gaston County) and Mooresville (Iredell County) use their own county inspections offices and rules.
